What needs to happen in the next 50 years for equality to be fully realized in the U.S.?
We have made such great strides over the last 50 years that I think people think the fight for equality in our nation is over, but it is just beginning. We have so far to go, in terms of racial equality, economic equality, and marriage equality, which is especially important to me.
The arguments made against gay marriage now are the same ones made against interracial marriage in the last century. As one-half of an interracial marriage that has lasted 20 years, the issues facing gay couples feel very personal to me.
Love is universal. The more we embrace it, the closer we will come to the pure, vibrant ideal of liberty our nation was founded on.
