2 pilots arrested before trans-Atlantic flight

LONDON -- Authorities say two commercial airline pilots have been arrested at Glasgow Airport on suspicion of being under the influence of alcohol, shortly before they were due to take off on a trans-Atlantic flight.

Canadian airline Air Transat says the two crew members were arrested before a Glasgow to Toronto flight on Monday.

Police Scotland says the men, aged 37 and 39, are due to appear in court Tuesday, charged with being "impaired through alcohol."

Air Transat posted a tweet, calling its crews and passengers "our top priority."

The airline says passengers have been put up in hotels and will be flown to Toronto on Tuesday. In a statement posted on its official Twitter account, Air Transat said passenger safety was its paramount concern and that it would make no futher comment on the pilots pending the investigation.

Air Transat runs charter and scheduled flights between Canada and several European and Caribbean destinations. The airline says it will "await the results of the investigation and judicial proceedings" before commenting further.
