"Affluenza" teen purportedly seen in beer pong video
FORT WORTH, Texas -- A Texas District Attorney's office is investigating after a teen who avoided jail time following a fatal 2013 drunk driving crash was allegedly pictured playing beer pong in a video, reports CBS DFW.
Ethan Couch became known in the national media as the "affluenza" teen after a defense expert used the term in alleging his wealthy parents coddled him into a sense of irresponsibility. Last year, Couch was sentenced to 10 years' probation in the drunken-driving crash that killed four people and seriously injured two more. He was ordered to go to a rehabilitation facility paid for by his parents.
Couch was 16 at the time of the accident near Fort Worth. His blood-alcohol level was three times the legal limit for an adult and there were traces of Valium in his system when he lost control of his pickup truck and plowed into a group of people helping a woman whose car had stalled.
In the new, six-second video that's surfaced on social media, Couch is allegedly seen at a party with several people playing beer pong, reports CBS DFW.
According to the Houston Chronicle, the video was uploaded to social media by a user who said, "ya boy ethan couch violating probation. i got more if you want," and tagged the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office as well as the City of Burleson.
The Tarrant County District Attorney's Office is reportedly investigating whether Couch has violated his probation.
