Adnan Syed, made famous by "Serial," due back in court
BALTIMORE - The man whose conviction in the 1999 murder of a high school girl was the focus of a popular broadcast will appear in court this week, reports CBS Baltimore.
A Baltimore judge granted Adnan Syed's request in November to introduce evidence related to an alibi witness and cell phone evidence pertaining to his case. Syed was convicted in 2000 for the murder of his ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee. The case was the subject of the "Serial" podcast, in which reporter Sarah Koenig investigated the circumstances of Lee's death and Syed's conviction.
The podcast pointed out alleged flaw's in the prosecution of Syed, and of the case's handling by police and courts. It led to widespread calls for authorities to revisit the case.
Syed, who was sentenced to life in prison, is scheduled to appear in court at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week.
