"Superman" actor Jack Larson dies

Actor and playwright Jack Larson has died at the age of 87 years old.

A longtime friend confirmed to CBS Los Angeles that Larson died on Sunday at his home in Brentwood, California.

Larson was best known for his role playing Jimmy Olsen in the 1950s comic book series "Adventures of Superman" TV series. He appeared on the show for six seasons, starting in 1951 until the series came to a close following the death of George Reeves' (Clark Kent/Superman) in 1959.

Larson was also a prolific playwright, known for works including 1966's "The Candied House," 1968's "Chuck," 1997's "The Hyacinth From Apollo" and 1998's "Astronaut's Tale."

In 2010, Larson appeared on an episode of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit."

Funeral arrangements have not been released at this time.
