Several injured in Chicago bus crash

CHICAGO -- Authorities say a collision between a Chicago Transit Authority bus and several other vehicles killed one person and left at least eight others injured, two of them critically.

The accident occurred around 6 p.m. Tuesday in the city's downtown business district.

The accordion-style CTA bus was turning onto Michigan Avenue and collided with several other vehicles when it went onto the sidewalk. At one point a person was pinned underneath. Emergency personnel were able to extract that person.

Five vehicles were involved in the crash, CBS Chicago reported. One Mercedes had damage on all four sides and an SUV had its rear wheel ripped off.

The bus was not carrying any passengers.

Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford says nine people were transported from the scene. He says one of them was "extremely" critically injured.
