What it felt like building the 9/11 Museum

In 2013, Lesley Stahl gave viewers an in-depth look at the National September 11 Memorial Museum, as it was being constructed seven stories underground at ground zero. Stahl said the museum would bring visitors right back to the moment they first learned about the attack on 9/11.

“I think any American that walks into this space is going to feel the emotion,” she told 60 Minutes Overtime. “It’s church-like. I felt the same feelings you feel in a cathedral. There’s this soaring space, you know it’s a spiritual, hallowed ground that you’re walking on, and you just feel it.”

Editor’s Note: Since the museum opened in May 2014, it has been visited by more than six million people -- including Americans from all 50 states and visitors from more than 175 countries.
