Four-year-old girl hit by police bullet in Ohio

WHITEHALL, Ohio -- A 4-year-old child was struck by a bullet fired from a Columbus Police Officer's gun, reports CBS affiliate WBNS.

According to the station, a patrol officer was answering a call Friday afternoon when a family in the area started screaming for help because of a medical emergency.

The officer responded and was allegedly accosted by a dog. Investigators reportedly said the officer shot at the dog but that a stray or ricocheted bullet struck the child.

According to Columbus Police, the girl is in stable condition at Nationwide Children's Hospital.
