#14Days: Thriving in recovery

Tommy Rosen, founder of the holistic recovery program Recovery 2.0, joins us again for the final day of our #14Days on the Wagon series to applaud your efforts and to support your ongoing journey to enhanced health and vitality.

He speaks to the spirit of those helping one another in recovery. "Nothing worthwhile happens alone," Rosen says. "Everything in this world is a collaborative process. We're all helping each other in the best of circumstances, and to try to become a better person completely of your own efforts, I just don't think that's realistic."

Rosen, now 23 years into his own recovery from addiction, knows from personal experience the challenges of trying to willpower his way to change. He credits his thriving recovery to the 12 steps, his yoga practice, and a large community of friends and loved ones who make up his support network.

"We need family, we need friends, we need a community, we need a tribe, whatever your word is, we need that," he says.

With his new book "Recovery 2.0: Move Beyond Addiction and Upgrade Your Life," Rosen says he is "on a mission to help people suffering from addiction (indirectly or directly) to move beyond it and thrive in their own recovery."

If you didn't make it through the full 14 days without drinking, don't be discouraged -- simply being aware of that will help you learn something about yourself.

"The main thing is if you've set out to do something and you didn't meet your goal, don't beat yourself up about it, don't worry about it. Just try again, and learn what you can along the way."

If, after participating in this challenge, you feel that you may have a problem with substances, reach out for help.

For those of you who cruised through the past two weeks, try taking it to the next level.

Rosen challenges, "Try 14 days revamping your diet -- 14 days no processed foods, no breads, no pastas, no sources of sugar other than natural fruit."

"Your lifestyle becomes, 'How strong can I get? How far can I get? How much can I develop myself?' We don't even know what's possible when we get really strong and really clear in our mind. We start to do all kinds of incredible things we never could have imagined for ourselves. Hopefully, some people had a little taste of that, these last 14 days."
