Youth Soccer Coach Brings World Cup Home To Mpls.
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Adam Pribyl was in Brazil for the World Cup. What struck him as much as the game was the raw emotion of each country.
"The coolest thing was being from the U.S., seeing what like patriotism is here and then seeing all these other nations and how crazy they get for their country," Pribyl said. "That's what inspired me the most being down there."
Being inside the stadium for a game gave him the chills.
"This has always kind of been one of my bucket-list things is going to the World Cup," he said. "The environment's like nothing we have here in the U.S."
That's what he wants to bring back to the Twin Cities. He's running a camp this week at DeLaSalle High School in Minneapolis for kids from the inner city. He brings an understanding of what the game looks like on an international stage.
"I'm trying to bring back what I saw there and try to instill that in my guys, and I think that's one of the coolest things about this camp is you got, you know, 10, 15 guys that are … this is their summer, they could being doing lots of other things," Pribyl said.
And because it didn't take much money to play the sport, Pribyl and others believe the sport is ripe for growth in urban areas. It doesn't have to be a suburban sport, which was reinforced to him in Brazil.
"You just don't need much. They don't even play with a soccer ball down there. They can, you know, duct tape up a piece of trash and they're playing," he said. "We can do that here, it's just, you know, it's gonna come."
