Wife Dead, Husband Hospitalized After Maple Grove Incident; Family Member Arrested
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A Twin Cities man is in custody, accused of killing his mother and attacking his father.
Maple Grove police say officers responded Wednesday around 8 p.m. to the home on the 660 block of Eagle Lake Drive on a report of an unconscious person. Inside, they found the two victims, a husband and a wife, identified as George and Elizabeth Witt.
Emergency crews brought them to a nearby hospital, where Elizabeth died. George is now in stable condition.
Police say a 42-year-old man, who is the son to the victims, was arrested at the scene and is being held on probable cause for murder. No details were given as to what happened in the home.
"I'm kind of just in shock," said Caleb Spike.
Spike knows the family and told WCCO-TV that he has seen police called to the home several times in recent months, but didn't know exactly why. He said he did know that a husband and wife live in the home with their adult son.
"I knew they were a little quick to anger but never this violent, never anything like this," added Spike.
Another neighbor said they didn't know the family who lived there, but that the incident has shaken the quiet neighborhood.
On Thursday morning, investigators could be seen at the home gathering evidence. Police say there is no threat to the public.
