Woman Accused Of Threatening Hospital Rampage
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 34-year-old Hastings woman is accused of threatening to shoot up a Burnsville hospital, leading to a lockdown late last week, according to charges filed Monday in Dakota County Court.
Katrina Evelyn Schanus was charged with one count of terroristic threats in connection with the Jan. 30 incident.
According to the charges, police were called to Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville on a report of a threat made against the hospital. When authorities arrived, a hospital employee said she got a phone call between 2 and 2:30 p.m. from Schanus. She wanted to speak to a specific doctor who was not available, then said "You people better figure out what happened to me. If someone doesn't tell me I'm gonna come in there with a (expletive) gun and shoot them. I'm going to shoot every (expletive) one of you. I'm hoping I don't have to come in there with a (expletive) gun and shoot all of you."
Schanus continued the threat, which put the hospital in lockdown while they tried to find her, saying she had been under a lot of stress. For the last 10 months and that a rapper had made a song about her, according to the complaint.
Her mother told authorities Schanus suffers from mental illness and said she's a threat to herself and others. Through cell phone data, police tracked her traveling from Wisconsin to Minnesota and she was arrested in Brooklyn Center. She admitted to making the threats against the hospital.
If convicted, she faces up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
