Wis. Man Accused Of Attacking Estranged Wife, Taking Son

NEILLSVILLE, Wis. (AP) — A Neillsville man is in custody and is accused of breaking into the home of his estranged wife, assaulting her and taking their 4-year-old son before leading police on a highway chase.

Neillsville police say the child's mother called 911 about 12:30 a.m. Thursday. Police, Clark County sheriff's deputies and the Wisconsin Department of Justice began preparing an Amber Alert as they tried to locate the 38-year-old man.

A deputy in Eau Claire County spotted the man's vehicle about 5 a.m. and called for backup. When deputies tried pulling the man over, he took off and a pursuit began. Police say stop sticks were used to deflate the suspect's tires and he was arrested after a brief struggle south of Cadott. The child was found shaken, but unharmed and was returned to his mother.
