1 Person Killed By Train In Winona

WINONA, Minn. (AP) — Authorities say one person has been struck and killed by a train in Winona.

It happened shortly before 11 p.m. Friday. Neighbors gathered at the tracks after hearing the train brake and seeing the flashing lights.

The tracks, which bisect the city from west to east, have been the scene of two other fatalities this year. A 63-year-old man was killed in February when he tried to cross the Canadian Pacific tracks by crawling underneath some stopped cars and was run over when the train started to move.

And in January, a 25-year-old man attempted to cross the tracks ahead of a train, but tripped and fell and was killed.

The latest victim has not been identified.
