Winona Police: Man, 63, Killed Trying To Cross Tracks Underneath Train
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Winona police say a 63-year-old man was struck and killed by a train when he attempted to cross the tracks underneath the train early Friday morning.
At 1:54 a.m. Friday, emergency responders were dispatched to the call of an individual on foot struck by a train at the South Baker street crossing in Winona.
Upon arrival, the man was found dead.
Police learned that a southbound CP rail train was stopped to drop cars off and the safety arms were down. The man apparently tried to cross the tracks under the train just prior to or just after it began to move southbound. He was then struck by the wheels.
People who were in contact with the victim earlier did indicate that alcohol could be a factor, police say.
The initial investigation has determined that the incident was accidental.
Just last month, a 25-month-old college student was also struck and killed by a train in Winona.
