Winona Cop Gets Probation For DWI

WINONA, Minn. (WCCO) -- A man who pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated while serving as a Winona police officer will get one year of supervised probation and must pay a $1,000 fine.

In November 2012, Officer Ryan Donald Walski arrived at Winona City Hall and spoke with Deputy Chief Tom Williams, who noted that Walski's speech, appearance and mannerisms indicated he was intoxicated.

When asked if he was intoxicated, Walski admitted to Williams that he would fail a breath test. Williams then drove Walski to Winona Community Memorial Hospital, where tests showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.26. The legal limit in Minnesota is 0.08.

Earlier this month, Walski pleaded guilty to one count of misdemeanor DWI and he was granted a stay of imposition.

He must abide by the terms of his probation, which include undergoing chemical dependency evaluation and treatment, remain law abiding, and to use no controlled substances.
