Wiffle Ball Tournament Raises Money For Charity League
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Hundreds of people hit the baseball diamond for a great cause Sunday.
The Big Wiff, as it's known, is a wiffle ball tournament, benefiting the Miracle League of Minnesota. It's a league that gives kids of all abilities the chance to play baseball. The field in Minnetonka is modified for children with special needs. It's designed to accommodate wheelchairs and walking devices while preventing injuries.
Volunteers, known as "baseball buddies" help the kids during the game.
"You'll probably never see an event where's there's as much cheerleading for the other team -- the other opponent -- while the games are going on," the Miracle League's founder Kevin Thoresen said.
Teams played Sunday hoping to reach the championship next month. The ultimate winners will win a trip to see the Twins at spring training.
