When To See Sunday's Super Moon

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Get ready for the second and final total lunar eclipse this year.

The show starts Sunday night at about 8:07 p.m., when the shadow of the earth will start covering the moon.

Totality -- or total moon cover -- will occur from 9:11 p.m. to about 10:23 p.m., when the moon will be covered in a reddish hue. The end of the eclipse begins at about 11:27 p.m.

This is also considered a super moon, when the celestial body is at its closest approach to the earth's orbit. The moon will look 13-percent larger than normal.

Cloud cover could be an issue as shower activity in northern Minnesota during late Sunday afternoon will start working its way to the Twin Cities.

Even if clouds mix with the moonlight, it will still be a great sight.

This type of eclipse is safe on the eyes, so no need for protection.

The next total lunar eclipse will not be until 2018.
