Crow Wing Co. Sheriff Warns Residents Of Storm Scams
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- After severe storms swept through central Minnesota last week, officials are warning residents of scammers hoping to profit off the destruction.
In a press release Monday morning, the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office said there were reports of individuals or companies offering inspections of storm damage and repair estimates. The sheriff reminded residents to check a few important points before committing to repairs:
- Check your homeowners insurance or individual insurance policy, which may pay for some of the damage.
- Check credentials of anyone offering to repair or clean up your property -- the individual or company should be insured.
- No one should have to pay in advance for repairs.
- There should be no need to have trees cut and removed from your property.
The sheriff is asking the public to report any suspicious activity.
