WCCO Viewers' Choice For Best Burgers In Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Miesville, Minnesota is a town you could easily drive right through.

Halfway between Hastings and Red Wing on Highway 61, this town of about 130 residents is home to the best burger in Minnesota -- or maybe I should say burgers!

Welcome to King's Place, famous for serving a whopping 70 different burgers.

If you're keeping track, that means there's a different burger for every two residents in Miesville.

"We wanted to be unique, and we wanted to specialize in one thing -- and that was burgers," owner Terri Lawrence said.

Arlene and Jerry Greenlee bought King's Place in 1984, and their kids -- Terri and Jeff -- took over in 2002.

"This is the original menu when we first came, and there are four burgers on here when we first came," Terri said.

Even though the kids run the show now, Arlene and Jerry are still there often, just like many of their customers.

"We get all kinds. You can have a police officer sitting here, you can have a pig farmer sitting here … a judge sitting there," Terri said.

King's has a tiny, open kitchen so you can watch your burger getting made. And if you can't pick one, they'll make just about anything.

"We have one lady that comes in and orders peanut butter and jelly on their burger, and then they put American cheese on it, too," Terri said.

Novel ingredients, sure, and the toppings are borderline ridiculous -- like bacon, maple syrup and peanut butter. But they really do come together in perfectly-cooked harmony.

It's an honest burger at an honest price: $3 to $6 max.

"My dad is all for family. He wants a family to come in here and have a regular meal at a decent price," Terri said. "He says you can't touch that, so I don't change it."

King's Place is small town America at its finest. And if beef isn't your thing, they will make any burger a black bean burger or chicken sandwich.

A few of your other favorites were Matt's Bar in Minneapolis and Lion's Tap in Eden Prairie.
