Vikings Submit Facility, Headquarters Plans To Eagan City Officials

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota Vikings have released renderings of what their new team headquarters and practice facility set for the southeast Twin Cities metro could look like.

Team officials said back in January they finalized a purchase agreement for 185 acres of land in Eagan at the intersection of Dodd Road and Lone Oak Parkway. It's the former headquarters of Northwest Airlines. They filed plans for the new team facility with the city of Eagan on Thursday.

With the move, the Vikings are consolidating three office buildings for employees in Eden Prairie, Bloomington and Minneapolis into one on the Eagan land that will start at 165,000 square feet and could expand to 240,000. The building will house team executes, staff and administration and will also include the team locker room and full kitchen and dining area for the players and coaches as well as the weight training facility.

The Vikings will bring about 175 new employees to the Eagan facility. Next to the office building will be a 91,000 square foot indoor practice facility. There will be an outdoor practice facility just west of the office building.

Officials say the facility will also have an outdoor lighted stadium with seating for 6,000 that can be expanded for up to 10,000.

The Eagan City Council will host a special meeting and public hearing for May 23 to look at the application, consider public feedback and recommendations.
