Vikings Stadium Pedestrian Bridge Over Budget By $1 Million
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The cost of building a pedestrian bridge linking the $1.1 billion U.S. Bank Stadium to a nearby light-rail platform is reportedly costing $1 million more than expected.
The total cost is projected to be more than $10.5 million.
During the construction process, some design changes took hold, like additional lighting and security cameras.
"I think anybody who watches a TV rehab show knows that during construction they typically have contingency budgets," Howie Padilla of Metro Transit said. "We don't build contingencies into our contracts, so these are things that came up during construction that we saw were a benefit to the project moving forward."
The contact stipulates that the Vikings pick up $6 million of that total overrun.
Padilla says the additional cost will not affect other Metro Transit projects, like improving bus shelters.
