Vikings Stadium Build Zooms Along; Focus Shifts To Field
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The giant shell of the new Minnesota Vikings stadium is all but done and work on the inside is humming along. Now the team needs a field to play on.
The Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority is seeking bids on artificial turf for the $1 billion stadium set to open next year. The request formally posted last week and advertised more broadly Monday looks for a 99,000-square-foot section of turf for NFL play and 32,000-square feet suitable for baseball.
The new stadium is a roofed facility, which means it wouldn't be suitable for natural grass.
The football turf must be in place for the start of the 2016 season. The baseball diamond would have to be ready for 2017 for possible collegiate and high school play.
