Vikings Fans Look Forward To Outdoor Football
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- It's only a month and a half before from the start of the NFL season. Vikings fans could get their hands on single game tickets starting Tuesday morning.
This will be the first season the team will play at TCF Bank Stadium.
"I'm looking forward to it," Vikings fan Tim Novy said. "I was a season ticket holder at the Metrodome, so it'll be nice to be back outside."
The team will be using TCF until their new stadium is ready in 2016.
"We're off to a good start," Minnesota Vikings sales and marketing vice president Steve LaCroix said.
Opening day ticket sales were on par with years past, LaCroix said, even with the prospect of purple and gold fans battling purple lips come wintertime.
"We knew obviously weather could become a factor later in the year, but so far that's not been impacting ticket sales," LaCroix said.
Fans got a taste of bitter cold football when the Vikings played the Bears at TCF in 2010 after the Metrodome roof collapsed, but fans are picking games based on opponent, not weather.
"It's going to be cold but I think I have some winter jackets I can wear," Vikings fan Tan Nguyen said.
The hot tickets are for Green Bay and New England. Those are only available in paired game packages like in past years.
Even though the Vikings will only be at TCF Bank Stadium for two seasons, some fans wish it was more than temporary.
"I kind of wish the new stadium had a retractable roof because I think that's kind of part of the fun so these couple years at TCF will be fun," Vikings fan Michael Swanson said.
