UW-Stout Student Found Dead Had Mix Of Drugs, Alcohol In System
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A University of Wisconsin-Stout student found dead in January had a mix of drugs and alcohol in her system, according to the Menomonie Police Department.
Jesse Jensen, 23, was found dead in her bedroom on Jan. 22. Jensen, from Owen, Wis., was a senior at the school.
Toxicology tests indicate Jensen had a blood-alcohol level of 0.16 at the time of her death, and had morphine and oxycodone in her system.
David Thorne, 28, was arrested in connection with Jensen's death after confessing to providing her with oxycodone.
Thorne, who was not a student at UW-Stout, was charged in Dunn County with first-degree reckless homicide and delivery of a schedule II narcotic.
Joan Thomas, dean of students at UW-Stout, says Jensen's death is a reminder of the danger of drug abuse.
"This incident is a wake-up call about the severity of the alcohol and narcotics problem in communities across Wisconsin," Thomas said.
The dean also noted that less than one percent of UW-Stout students reported using drugs in a 2013 survey, and three percent reported abusing prescription pain medications.
