U.S. Bank Stadium Hosting Job Fair Ahead Of June Opening

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- U.S. Bank Stadium is looking to fill 3,000 jobs before the doors open in June.

The organization is looking to fill those positions by seeking out communities of color, the homeless and highly-mobile people. U.S. Bank is working with the YMCA and other community partners to hold pre-screening career fairs.

The events help give applicants a leg up when applying for jobs. Job coaching and other resources are placed under one roof to give young people a chance at a job of a lifetime. Thousands of homeless teens flock to Youthlink for support.

"To me this meant everything to me because it was right at home," Jabre Peoples said.

But on this day, their safe haven has become a place of opportunity.

U.S. Bank has put together a career fair where these young people will get extra help when applying for 3,000 jobs at the new stadium.

"I think a lot of times we throw jobs at people who may not be prepared so what we really tried to do is say what are going to be kind of the steps to success," Gina Villarreal said.

Community Navigator Gina Villarreal says the goal is to make sure these young people have the resources necessary to be successful during an interview.

"Do you have your ID, do you have something to wear to the interview, how can we best prepare you so when you do go to the interview you actually walk away with the job?" Villarreal said.

Job coaches are on hand to provide the skills needed to catch the eye of the potential employer. Human resource professionals are volunteering their time to guide these applicants to success.

"If you don't know what to say, how to wear a shirt or button a tie, like we have people here that can do that for you," Stephane Robinson said.

For many young people who have been looking for work, this is the break they've been looking for.

"You can start out as a runner and next thing you know you are the supervisor of the place," Peoples said.

Peoples says he is one step closer to his goal of being employed and this career fair is giving him what he needs to make his dreams reality.

"To be able to provide to them at the end of this event a gold ticket, an interview where they are actually scheduled and they have their U.S. Bank folder and they are ready to walk into the doors for the interview and get the job," Lisa Holyfield said.

There will be another Career Fair on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Progressive Baptist Church in St. Paul.
