UMinn Student Threatened With Screwdriver In Attempted Robbery
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The University of Minnesota issued a crime alert after a student was threatened with a large screwdriver in an attempted armed robbery Thursday.
According to the university, the incident occurred off-campus on Sept. 4 at around 12:15 p.m. near the intersection of 27th Avenue Southeast and Como Avenue Southeast.
The female victim was waiting in a bus shelter at the intersection when a man approached, threatened her with a large screwdriver and demanded her valuables. The man tried to take her cell phone, but she resisted. The man then grabbed her backpack and fled.
As the suspect was running away, another person waiting for the bus grabbed the backpack from him and knocked the screwdriver out of his hand.
The suspect fled north on 27th Avenue and may have driven away in a grey car.
The victim, who was not injured, described the suspect as a black man between 5-foot-9 and 5-foot-11 with a medium build, close cropped hair, a light mustache and a mark under his eye. He was wearing a white crew T-shirt and jeans that were in good shape.
