'U' Professor Charged With Domestic Assault

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A University of Minnesota professor has been charged with domestic assault.

Aaron Doering, 47, is being held at Hennepin County Jail, accused of violently attacking a woman during an argument Wednesday night in Minneapolis.

In the criminal complaint, the woman told authorities Doering dragged her by her hair, beat, and choked her.

She also alleges this was not the first time.

A spokesperson for the university told WCCO Doering's employment status with the school has not changed, that they are aware of the situation and will be reviewing the matter.

Doering made his first appearance in court Friday and bail was set at $30,000 without conditions or $5,000 with conditions, which include no contact with the woman, no use of alcohol or non-prescribed medication, random testing, no possession of firearms and domestic abuse no contact order.

As of Friday night, Doering was released from custody.

The judge also ordered Doering to obtain a mental health evaluation.

Doering's next court appearance is Jan. 23.
