'U' Motorcycle Officer Injured In Minneapolis Chase

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A University of Minnesota motorcycle officer was injured in a high-speed chase Saturday morning in Minneapolis.

According to Minneapolis Police, the incident happened just after 11 a.m. in Seven Corners near the U of M's West Bank campus. The officer ran the plate of a black SUV with a trailer attached to it and found that it was stolen.

The officer attempted to pull over the 19-year-old woman who was driving, but she fled over the 35W Bridge towards downtown.

The woman then crashed into a parked car near 12th Avenue South and Washington Avenue South, causing items in the attached trailer to fly out. She then made a sharp turn onto 3rd Street South, causing the officer to lay down his motorcycle to avoid hitting her.

The officer, along with a Minneapolis Police officer who witnessed the chase, caught and arrested the suspect soon after she tried to flee the scene on foot.

The U of M officer suffered serious arm injuries when he had to lay down his bike.
