3 unrelated shootings in Minneapolis leave 1 dead; 2 occurred just 10 minutes apart
MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis police are investigating three different shootings on Saturday, including one that was fatal and two that happened less than 10 minutes apart.
The first shooting happened at about 1:12 a.m. off North Lowry and Penn avenues, according to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office. The victim, 45-year-old Omari Kwakou Thomas of Brooklyn Center, was shot in the stomach and died hours later at North Memorial Health.
The second shooting happened near the 2600 block of Third Avenue South. Officers were called to the scene and found a man with life-threatening injuries. He was taken to Hennepin Healthcare.
The third shooting happened around 10 minutes later near the 2500 block of Cedar Avenue South. A man was found one block south with life-threatening gunshot wounds. Police say the victim was walking down the street after meeting a group when he was shot. He then ran a block before he collapsed. He was also taken to Hennepin Healthcare.
Police say no arrests have been made in these cases, which do not appear to be related.
