Two More Zika Cases Confirmed In Iowa

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa state health officials say two more Iowa travelers have become ill with the Zika virus.

The Iowa Department of Public Health said Friday that the women, who have not been identified, recently traveled to the Caribbean or South America, where the virus is spreading.

Last week, health officials revealed Iowa's first case — a woman between the ages of 61 and 80 who recently had traveled to Central America.

Zika is primarily spread by mosquito bites, and it has been linked to birth defects, including infants with small heads.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advises pregnant women to delay traveling to countries where the virus is being transmitted.

There is no vaccine or treatment for Zika.
