Twins GM Ryan Undergoes Surgery For Cancer
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Twins say general manager Terry Ryan has undergone surgery after being diagnosed with cancer.
The Twins say Ryan had surgery Tuesday at Mayo Clinic. The team says he's resting and will spend the next few nights at the clinic. No other details were released.
Ryan said Monday in a statement that a lump in his neck was discovered by the team physician during a routine annual physical. A biopsy revealed squamous cell carcinoma.
Ryan says tests indicated the cancer appeared to be confined to his neck and had not spread. He says he has been assured his condition is treatable.
Ryan will not be with the Twins for the start of spring training so he can focus on his treatment and recovery.
