Twin Cities Nonprofit Accused Of Sending Staff Members On Tropical Vacations
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Twin Cities nonprofit that works to keep people warm during the winter may be in some hot water.
The Department of Human Services says Community Action of Minneapolis has used money to send staff members on tropical vacations.
The group's stated mission is to help people pay heating bills and to help low-income families become more self-sufficient.
But in the audit DHS released to WCCO accuses the group of using grant money to pay for airfare to the Bahamas and a celebrity cruise.
The audit also says that there's been an 85-96 percent drop in people who have actually obtained jobs with the Community Action's help.
On the group's website, the CEO says they are dedicated to making people's lives better, but the audit's findings may mean the agency is at risk of losing its funding.
