Top 2 Gopher NFL Prospects Sit On The Sidelines at Pro Day

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- As his former teammates ran and jumped and blocked and caught, David Cobb watched.

The former Gophers running back strained his quad at the NFL Combine last month, and rather than risk further injury by testing it in the Gophers' annual Pro Day on Monday, he's giving it time to heal up, and planning to hold his own personal pro day in early April.

"You've gotta stay positive, man," Cobb said. "I've got an injury, but again, I have an opportunity to live my dream, and it's the best time in my life."

Former Gophers tight end Maxx Williams, content with his performance at the Combine, mostly watched as well, only participating in position drills. He could be the Gophers' first first-round pick since Laurence Maroney in 2006.

"Yeah, you want to be that, because your goal is to go in the first round," Williams said. "But for me, I just want to be drafted. That's why I came out. I want to be a pro. As long as I hear my name called on one of those three days, I'll be happy.

"I mean, what's going to happen is going to happen. I can't control it at this point. I just go out there and work hard. And wherever I get picked, I get picked."
