Thousands Celebrate Mother's Day At Race For The Cure
EDINA, Minn. (WCCO) -- On this Mother's Day, thousands took part in the 23rd annual Twin Cities Race for the Cure at the Southdale Center in Edina.
It's put on every year by the Susan G. Komen Foundation of Minnesota. Through events like this one, they've raised more than $44 million for breast cancer awareness, education, research and treatment. They held a 1K, 5K and "Kids for the Cure" fun run this weekend.
One woman told us this is a Mother's Day tradition in her family, something they've done for 20 years.
"Every year I get a little bit older but every year that 5K is just like no problem. I'm still here, still doing it," Bobbi Elliott said.
"It's amazing to see the numbers grow every year and more pink means more survivors, means it's all working. It's great," Amanda Nesbitt said.
Up to 75 percent of the net proceeds stay right here in Minnesota. Susan G. Komen is the world's largest breast cancer organization, spanning 30 countries worldwide.
