Teens Charged In Air Jordan Shooting In Brooklyn Center

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Two teenagers have been formally charged in connection with a shooting outside of a Brooklyn Center Foot Locker store.

The Hennepin County Attorney's Office says Gary Lamar Townsend, 17, faces a second-degree attempted murder charge and first- and second-degree assault charges.

Daniel James Hart, also 17, was charged Friday with second-degree assault and aiding and abetting attempted second-degree murder.

The criminal complaint says police were called last Saturday morning to a Brooklyn Center strip mall on Shingle Creek Parkway at about 9:40 a.m. after someone spotted someone with a weapon.

Police arrived to find several people waiting patiently in line to buy the latest Nike Air Jordan shoes, and did not see anyone with a weapon.

Officers then parked in a nearby lot, and a few minutes later heard gunshots. They witnessed Hart helping Townsend away from the front of the Foot Locker, but Hart then left Townsend and fled in a vehicle.

Witnesses say Townsend had gotten into an argument with another person over shoes, and Townsend pulled out a gun and shot him twice.

Another person in line with a conceal-and-carry permit then pulled out his gun and shot Townsend.

Two other witnesses say they followed Townsend and Hart after the shootings until Hart grabbed his friend's gun and told them to get away.

The victim was shot in the liver, kidney and arm. His condition has not been released.
