Tarkenton Calls For Goodell To Take Action On Peterson, Rice
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The child abuse investigation involving Minnesota Viking running back Adrian Peterson continues to shake up the NFL, fans and even former players.
Now one of the greatest players in Minnesota Vikings history is speaking out with strong words for Commissioner Roger Goodell, the Vikings and Peterson. Peterson has been placed on the exempt list, meaning he for sure won't play this Sunday against the New Orleans Sainst and won't be on a football field again until his legal issues are resolved.
This came after the team said Monday the former MVP would be suiting up against New Orleans this Sunday. Team officials had been feeling the pressure from sponsors, fans and the community about their original plan to let Peterson play. That decision was reversed early Tuesday morning, and Vikings owners admitted to making a mistake by re-instating Peterson.
Former quarterback Fran Tarkenton says a decision must be made on both Peterson and Ray Rice, and swift action must be taken. He wants suspensions without pay.
"I think that you will find Roger Goodell coming out with some tough, tough words and penalties to handle this type of behavior. It's unacceptable, it should be zero tolerance," Tarkenton said. "And this is a platform for the Wilf's and other owners, the platform for Roger Goodell to get this right and make sure we show the women of America and the children that we have their back."
Peterson's attorney says he wants to continue working with the team and resolve the matter in the appropriate legal way instead of in the court of public opinoin. Despite being away from the team, Peterson will continue to be paid for the season.
