State Takes Over Nursing Homes In Faribault, Owatonna
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — State authorities have taken over management of nursing homes in Faribault and Owatonna after their owners ran into financial troubles.
The Minnesota Department of Health says it used its emergency powers to protect the health and safety of residents at Faribault Care Center and Owatonna Care Center, and to ensure continued care.
Officials learned last week that the owner of the property and the manager of the facilities were having cash flow problems and were no longer going to operate the nursing homes, so the state got court permission to take control.
The department says Volunteers of America will serve as the facilities' managing agent while they're in receivership.
Faribault Care Center has 52 residents and Owatonna Care Center has 36. About 130 employees work at the two facilities.
