State Patrol: Suspected Drunk Driver Injures Officer, Other Driver In St. Paul

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Two people, including a police officer, were injured early Saturday morning when a suspected drunk driver slammed into the back of a squad car on Highway 280 in St. Paul.

The Minnesota State Patrol says a University of Minnesota officer had pulled over a 19-year-old St. Paul woman near University Avenue at about 12:40 a.m.

The officer was outside of the squad when another driver -- 34-year-old Chad Anderson of River Falls -- hit the back of the squad, causing it to hit the woman's parked car.

The squad's emergency lights were activated at the time of the crash.

The officer was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. The woman was taken to United Hospital with minor injuries.

Anderson also suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Regions Hospital by ambulance. He will likely face charges for driving while intoxicated, criminal vehicular operation and driving on a suspended license.

The names of the officer and young woman have not been released.
