State Patrol: Motorcyclist Likely Intoxicated In Fatal Broadside Accident
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota State Patrol says alcohol was likely a factor in the death of a Maple Grove motorcyclist early Saturday morning.
Authorities say the accident happened at about 1:45 a.m. at Highway 252 and 85th Avenue in Brooklyn Park.
Robert Zirbes, 54, broadsided a Nissan Altima after he ran a red light while travelling northbound on Hwy 252. He was not wearing a helmet, and investigators believe he was driving while intoxicated.
Zirbes later died from his injuries at North Memorial Medical Center.
The driver of the Nissan, 17-year-old Macarthur Killen of Brooklyn Park, was not injured in the crash.
The state patrol is investigating.
