State Patrol: Motorcyclist Dead In Crash On I-694 In Fridley

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A motorcyclist is dead after a crash early Monday morning on Interstate 694 in Fridley, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Authorities responded to the crash at about 2:31 a.m. on eastbound I-694 at the ramp to East River Road in Fridley. The State Patrol said the crash involved a 2002 Suzuki road street motorcycle and was the lone vehicle in the accident. When officers arrived, they found a 37-year-old man from Fridley who was pronounced dead at the scene. The motorcycle was found in the ditch near the victim, and an investigation showed it appears the man was heading northbound on East River Road and hit a stop light pole at the intersection.

The State Patrol said it appears the driver was the lone occupant of the motorcycle. Authorities have not released the name of the victim and are still investigating what led up to the crash. It's unclear what caused the crash. Authorities said there were no signs of foul play, and it's unknown if speed or alcohol were a factor in the crash.

The ramp to East River Road from I-694 was closed for part of the morning commute. The Anoka County Sheriff's Office said the crash is under investigation with assistance from the Minnesota State Patrol and Fridley Police.
