3-year-old boy killed in crash on Highway 52 south of Twin Cities

At least 1 dead in Highway 52 crash in Dakota County

HAMPTON, Minn. — A St. Paul toddler was killed in a crash just south of the Twin Cities on Monday, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The 3-year-old boy was in a Toyota Camry driven by a 28-year-old woman from St. Paul. The patrol said the Camry crossed the center line on Highway 52 at 250th Street near Hampton and hit a semi truck head-on just after 10:30 a.m.

The patrol immediately classified the crash as fatal. The 28-year-old was taken to Regions Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the semi, a 39-year-old Florida man, suffered minor injuries.

The highway was reduced to one lane in each direction due to construction in the area at the time of the crash. It was completely closed for some time while the patrol investigated.
