State Patrol: 2 Hurt In 3-Vehicle Head-On Crash Near Waverly

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Two people were hurt, one seriously, in a head-on crash involving three vehicles west of the Twin Cites Friday morning, according to the State Patrol.

Authorities responded to the crash at about 5:37 a.m. on Highway 12 near Waverly. When officers arrived, a semi-truck and a 2003 Mitsubishi Montero were heading westbound on Highway 12 near Waverly. A 2015 GMC Sierra was heading eastbound before crossing the median and hitting the trailer of the semi-truck.

The GMC Sierra then lost control and hit the Mitsubishi Montero head-on, causing the Montero to roll into the north ditch.

The State Patrol said a 23-year-old man from Eden Valley was seriously hurt in the crash and taken to Hennepin County Medical Center. He was driving the GMC Sierra. The driver of the Mitsubishi, a 21-year-old Rockford woman, suffered non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the semi-truck, a 29-year-old from Georgia, was not hurt in the crash.

What led up to the crash remains under investigation by the State Patrol with assistance from the Howard Lake Police Department.
