State Patrol: 16 Hurt After Car Hits School Bus Head-On
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO/AP) -- The head of a nonprofit says none of the children aboard a bus taking them to a Head Start program was seriously hurt when a car crashed head-on into the bus Monday morning. In all, 16 people were injured in the crash.
According to the state patrol, a Kia Soul was traveling westbound on Highway 212 east of Granite Falls when it crossed the center line of the roadway and struck a school bus, which was carrying 11 young children – ages 6 and under – and three adults.
All of the school bus occupants were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Jason Carlson, CEO of the Tri-Valley Opportunity Council, says all were released right away except for one child who was held until 1 p.m.
Carlson says all of the children were from migrant families and were on their way to a Head Start program in Danube when it happened.
The driver of the Kia, identified as Anthony Blue, 33, of Granite Falls, suffered non-life threatening injuries. His passenger was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.
