State Officials Announce Major Plan To Combat Homelessness
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- State officials announced an update to a plan to end homelessness in Minnesota.
The plan was announced along with new numbers showing a 10 percent decline in homelessness last year. There was an even larger decrease in the number of families with children without housing.
One of the greatest efforts of the plan is a commitment to providing support services so people who get housing stay in homes.
"Our goal -- the Minnesota Interagency Council on Homelessness, working with partners -- is to create systems throughout the state that do just this, and no longer accept homelessness as a fact of life in Minnesota," said Cathy ten Broeke, the State Director to Prevent and End Homelessness.
There are 11 state agencies working on the plan to provide affordable housing opportunities.
