State Of Emergency Issued In Fla. Over Zika Virus

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Florida's governor issued a state of emergency in four counties to try and stop the spread of Zika virus.

The action clears the way for crews to take action against the virus, like spraying for mosquitoes.

There are now 48 patients in the U.S., including one confirmed case in Minnesota. All of them were travelers who brought the virus back from other countries.

Zika virus is linked to birth defects and pregnant women have been advised to avoid travel to countries where it is spreading.

The Centers for Disease Control is also advising pregnant women to protect themselves if their male sexual partner have traveled to those countries.
