1 man dead, child nearly hit in St. Paul shooting

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Police in St. Paul are investigating after a shooting left a man dead Friday afternoon.

Authorities say officers were called to the 600 block of Aurora Avenue around 1:30 p.m. for multiple reports of shots fired.

Responding officers found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. He died at the scene.

Police say the man was sitting in a parked vehicle with an infant, a toddler and another man when another vehicle, described by authorities as small and dark, drove by.

Sgt. Mike Ernster with the St. Paul Police Department said shots were fired from the vehicle driving by.

There were no other injuries, but investigators say there were two bullet holes in the car seat the infant was sitting in.

No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call St. Paul police at 651-266-5650.

This is the 29th homicide of 2024 in St. Paul, according to police.

Earlier this month, a man died after a shooting near the Minnesota State Capitol in St. Paul. Police said the suspects ran from the scene, and a search of the area yielded no results.  No arrests have been made in the shooting near the capitol.
