St. Paul Police: Man Hurt After His Gun Discharges As Officers Perform Pat-Down Search
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- St. Paul police say a man was hurt early Friday morning when his gun discharged while officers were performing a pat-down search on him.
The St. Paul Police Department says the incident happened around 1:15 a.m. on the 1100 block of York Avenue, in the city's Payne-Phalen neighborhood. Officers had responded to the area on a report of two people acting suspiciously. One man was detained.
While officers were performing a pat-down search on him, they found he had a gun. During the search, the gun went off, hitting the man in the leg, police say.
Emergency crews brought the man to Regions Hospital. His injuries were described as non-life-threatening.
The man is arrest for being a felon in possession of a gun, police say.
The shooting is under investigation by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, which investigates officer-involved shootings in Minnesota.
The three officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure. Their names have not been released.
St. Paul police did not immediately specify if dash cameras or body cameras captured the shooting.
