ST. PAUL, Minn. — Police say a man fatally shot an alleged home invader in St. Paul early Monday morning.

Both the invader and the man who shot him spoke to 911 after the shooting, according to the St. Paul Police Department.

The episode began when a 911 call brought officers to a home on the 1300 block of Englewood Avenue around 1:45 a.m.

A woman called to report a home invader, and during the call, a man got on the phone and said he shot the alleged intruder multiple times.

Then, the alleged intruder called 911 and said he was dying before going silent, police said.

Once first responders arrived, they transported the man to Regions Hospital, where he later died. On Tuesday, police publicly identified him as 35-year-old Drew Johnson.

The police department said it is "working to determine the circumstances that led to this shooting." The woman who called 911 and the man who allegedly fired the fatal shots have both been arrested on suspicion of murder, police said.

Police said this is the city's 32nd homicide of the year.
