St. Cloud Police: Charges Could Come Down On Wrong-Way Driver

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Police in St. Cloud say assault charges could come down on a wrong-way driver who caused a crash last week that sent a man to the hospital.

The crash happened last Friday afternoon on the intersection of Highway 23 and 7th Avenue South.

Twenty-eight-year-old Mohamed Hassan Rage, of St. Cloud, was going east in the westbound lanes of Highway 23, police say.

Rage struck 40-year-old Daren Scot Protolipac, who was making a left-hand turn onto the highway from 7th Avenue.

Protolipac, of Sauk Rapids, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was hospitalized.

Rage was also taken to a hospital for a mental health review.

Police say the case is being sent to the Stearns County Attorney's Office for possible second-degree assault charges against Rage.
